The calamity is recounted by the official documents, which described the incident that took place when Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express met with an elephant herd in the Hojai district of Assam at sunrise, causing the death of eight elephants and one injured.

The de-railing incident of the train involved the locomotive and five coaches altogether. Nevertheless, a representative for the Northeast Frontier Railway informed that at a minimum there were no injuries among the passengers. The occurrence took place approximately at 2:17 am in the vicinity of Changjurai area in Lumding Division.

Nagaon Divisional Forest Officer Suhash Kadam along with other forest officials quickly arrived at the spot of the accident. Railway and accident relief trains are already there to manage the situation.

Train operations on the affected Jamunamukh-Kampur line have been interrupted, with some trains being rerouted via the UP line until the restoration work is completed, as per the information given by forest and railway officials.

The train service Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express connects Sairang in Mizoram with Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi, and is one of the significant long-distance services in the Northeastern part of India.
